6.tacos.jpg Jade goes to the Boys and Girls Club until about 8 p.m. because even though Latrese gets off of her parole job around 3 p.m. she then heads to Woodhaven where she helps disabled people. There she can earn a second income and have flexible hours because sometimes she gets so tired that she just decides that she cannot work. A study administered by America After 3 p.m. found that children of single working moms spend more hours per week in after school programs than do those of single working dads or children who have both parents working. The average amount of hours per week for the working moms category was 10.2 hours. Jade spends somewhere around 20 hours a week in after school programs. The Boys and Girls Club receives some state funding but it mostly relies on donations, according to Deronne Wilson, the Unit Director. The club does not have the facilities to feed all the children so the kids that stay late don't get to eat dinner until after they are picked up. On "Taco Thursday" each kid gets two tacos from Taco Bell. Wilson said he wishes they could feed all of the children but that the club does not get enough money as of now to do that. He said that some of the children get irritated because they are hungry. Jade, Jade's cousin Dezire Harvey, 7, and Tanajah Clark, 7, scarf down tacos at the Club.
